Volunteer: Back-to-School Backpack Distribution Volunteer

Help local students start the school year with confidence!

Join Rise as we prepare hundreds of local students for a successful school year through our annual Back-to-School Backpack Distribution!

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers 16 years of age and older who are reliable, detail-oriented, friendly, and able to follow directions. Since each family has a scheduled appointment and supplies are limited, volunteers play an important role in ensuring every family receives the correct number of school supplies so there is enough for everyone.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers may assist with:

Greeting and welcoming families

Assisting shoppers as they select school supplies

Monitoring supply quantities and purchase limits

Restocking school supply tables throughout the event

Organizing inventory and keeping the distribution area tidy

Helping families carry supplies to their vehicles as needed

Assisting with event setup and cleanup

We're seeking volunteers who are:

16 years of age or older

Volunteer: Thursday Rise Pantry Restock & Refresh

Help Us Reset the Pantry!

Tuesdays and Thursdays may be our quietest days at the Rise Pantry—but they’re also some of the most important! While we’re closed to shoppers, volunteers roll up their sleeves behind the scenes to restock, tidy up, and get everything ready for our next open day.

Whether you’re organizing shelves, cleaning restrooms, sweeping walkways, or sorting donations, this role is all about teamwork, care, and creating a space that feels welcoming and dignified. Depending on the day, you might help with stocking and organizing food and light cleaning or facility upkeep—so if you’re flexible, hands-on, and love a good refresh, this is a great fit!

What You’ll Be Doing:

Restocking shelves, fridges, and freezers with new donations

Sorting food and supplies (we follow the “first in, first out” method)

Keeping our shopping areas tidy and inviting

Light cleaning of common areas like floors, bathrooms, and entrances

Taking out trash, recycling, and compost, and making sure it’s all sorted properly

Helping us spot any low supplies, broken items, or things that need fixing

Pitching in on special projects or donation pick-ups when needed

This Role is Great For You If You:

Don’t mind some physical activity (lifting, bending, restocking)

Are organized and like things neat and in their place

Pay attention to details and care about cleanliness

Want to be part of a friendly team working toward a shared goal

Like a calm environment where your work has a big impact

Are comfortable following safety, food handling, and cleanliness guidelines

Every shelf you stock and floor you sweep helps us offer a pantry experience that’s warm, respectful, and ready for every shopper who walks through our doors.

We’d love to have you join us—sign up and be part of the magic behind the scenes!

Volunteer: Friday Rise Pantry Shopping Specialists

Be the Warm Welcome at the Pantry!

Greeter & Shopping Specialist  Volunteer

As a Greeter & Shopping Specialist Volunteer, you help set the tone for a client’s entire visit. Whether you’re welcoming someone at the door, helping them check in, guiding them through the pantry, or assisting with scheduling their next visit, you’re creating a space that feels respectful, dignified, and supportive.

This role is perfect for people who enjoy interacting with others, staying organized, and being part of a team that cares deeply about service. You may be asked to jump between different tasks during your shift based on the pantry’s needs, so flexibility is a plus!

What Volunteers May Be Asked to Do During a Shift:

Welcome clients as they arrive, offer a friendly greeting, and help them feel comfortable

Check clients in for their scheduled appointments using sign-in sheets or our PantrySoft system

Update client records—confirm address, family size, or dietary preferences as needed

Assist with referring to registration for new clients who haven’t shopped with us before

Answer client questions about available food, pantry procedures, or appointment guidelines

Walk alongside clients as they shop, offering help with:

Understanding item limits

Finding culturally familiar or diet-appropriate foods

Making thoughtful suggestions based on what’s available

Track client selections using the PantrySoft system (you’ll receive training!)

Help organize carts, baskets, and shopping supplies to keep the flow moving smoothly

Restock small items or notify staff when displays are low

Keep the shopping space clean and organized between clients—this may include wiping surfaces, returning stray items, or sweeping light messes

Support a calm, professional environment by staying focused, respectful, and refraining from eating or casual conversation in client areas

Communicate any concerns (client needs, safety issues, unusual situations) to pantry leadership or staff right away

This Role is a Great Fit If You:

Enjoy meeting and helping new people

Can stay calm and kind in busy or emotional environments

Are you comfortable using a computer or open to learning new digital tools

Like being part of a team that’s hands-on and mission-driven

Can treat personal information with care and confidentiality

Take pride in creating clean, welcoming, and respectful spaces
